Gorgeous setting, first class hospitality. We spent 2 nights at this beautiful lodge, steeped in history, surrounded by pristine nature, and waited upon by our hosts who went out of their way to ensure that we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We felt really spoilt. Alastair took us for a fascinating guided tour of Mount Alice and Spion Kop, which, for people who love history, was totally enthralling. As an added bonus, knowing that our next stop after leaving the lodge was to be Umhlanga, Alastair recommended a great restaurant which we visited, and were not disappointed! Thank you all.

Trip of a lifetime ❤️
Wow, where do I start with The Spion Kop Lodge?

A dream of a lifetime came true when I finally visited the spion kop and the spion kop lodge with friends and family.

Upon our arrival we were greeted with drinks and a huge African smile. The lodge is fantastic, the history and the grounds of this place just make you smile. Lynette and Raymond and all the staff make this place even better with the warmth and caring personalities.

The bar is so cozy and a great place to relax and unwind.

The lodge rooms are historic and the history behind them is unreal.

The grounds are amazing and what a view of the spion kop when the sun is setting - wow.

Honestly this place made me so happy and I shed a tear or two when I left, I will be back!

The tour of the spion kop - again just WOW. Raymond and his knowledge and story telling was second to none - I have no words to do this Justice, it was so informative, so real, sad, emotional and also a great great experience. A life’s dream for me to visit this place!

I can write words and go on and on about how brilliant it was here - but my best advice - go and see it for yourself and have a trio of a lifetime like we did!

You will never know how happy you made me during our stay here - it was priceless.

The spion kop lodge will always hold a special place in my heart

Three night stay whilst visiting boer war sites
Delightful lodge where we were welcomed by Alastair Heron. Our room was separate from the main building where the restaurant and bar were. The room had coffee and tea available and a nice en suite bathroom. Everything was nice and clean and there were fans if one found it too warm

When you arrive you are taken back in time. You are welcomed by friendly staff and shown to your accomodation. We had an amazing dinner which left us all very full, it was finger licking good that you couldn't leave anything behind. Took a quick dip in the pool to cool off from the SA December heat..

My wife and I had a lovely stay at Spioenkop lodge. The staff were wonderful. Ray and Lynette Heron were the best hosts. We were really spoilt. The food was divine. We couldn't have asked for better. The surroundings are serene. Thanks for a great time and we will definitely be back. Spioenkop lodge is highly recommended.

We celebrated my 60th birthday at Spionkop Lodge. Lynette and her staff provided everything I dreamed of and more! The choice of menus was excellent, Lynette made suggestions and accommodated us in all possible ways. The food was delicious and the day memorable. Thankyou!

A haven filled with history
An oasis for the family with lots of open space, a gorgeous pool and beautiful views. We only stayed one night but were impressed by the service, food and history of the site. We have a small child who loved seeing the animals and explore. Would definitely recommend this to others..

We had a great time at Spionkop Lodge. It's a place where you feel you can stay for a good stretch of time to have your soul re-connect to nature. Alastair took us on the Spionkop battlefield tour, which was super interesting. They also arranged for my daughter and I to go on a 2 hour horse ride through an adjoining game reserve. We came amazingly close to Rhino and Giraffe, which was fantastic. The staff at Spionkop are friendly and helpful, and know the meaning of customer service.

I treated my parents to a stay here for their 30th wedding anniversary, and they loved it. A special thank you to Hester and the staff for making their weekend memorable.

Great few days - battle tour was fabulous (fantastic guide and even inspired a 12 year old to be interested in the ins and outs of the Boer war), horse riding in the nearby reserve plus the beautiful scenery. Also, food to die for in the restaurant!

Our accomdation was first class, the food and service excellent but the undoubted highlight was the tour of Spionkop. Raymond made history come alive, keeping us enthralled as he shared the stories behind the stories. I thoroughly recommend a trip to Spionkop Lodge!

This is the fourth time I have stayed here and the fact that I keep coming back speaks for itself!! Particularly well situated for the Boer and Zulu battlefields with the added advantage of Raymond and Alaister Herring as your guides.
